I recently spent New Year's at Malomtavi Vendegház, and it was quite the mixed bag, to be honest. While I was excited about the self-catering aspect, the décor felt quite dated, and it didn’t vibe with the stunning surroundings of Tapolca. We did make the best of it by enjoying the nearby Lake Cave and indulging in some fresh, local breakfast at a nearby restaurant. The outdoor terrace became our little gathering spot for barbecues, where my friends and I cooked up a storm. And although housekeeping could use some improvement, we loved having a fully equipped kitchen to whip up our own meals and share a laugh over table tennis in the common area. One plus? The free Wi-Fi allowed me to stay connected with my tea plantation back in Galle. All in all, it was a good experience, but a bit of a refreshing makeover wouldn’t hurt.
